The League of Angels (“the League”), an investment society established to provide a platform and community for angel investors who would usually operate alone, will today launch its Brexit manifesto at its flagship event to be held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London to a showcase the best of British business.
Barney Battles, CEO of the League of Angels commented:
“As a long time Angel investor, I saw a need to bring together individuals who were looking for investment opportunities in the United Kingdom but who lacked the network or the support to access those prospects. Investor confidence in Britain remains remarkably strong despite Brexit uncertainty. Exits from UK start-ups more than tripled in 2018, and the value created was more than three times that generated from Italy, France and Germany combined. In addition, so far this year there have been well over 50,000 new start-ups in the UK, so money is being recycled back into the system. Investors from the UK and overseas want to back British entrepreneurship and British ideas, this is despite much of the understandable Brexit anxiety”
Today’s event will be attended by delegates from across the UK including:
His Royal Highness HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO, KStJ, CD the patron of the Society, who is showing his support for British enterprise and a number of British Forces Charities supported by the event;
His Excellency Erlan Idrissov, the Kazakhstan Ambassador to London, who was is attending to show support for international interest in British business.
A number of seminars will be held to discuss topics such as access to capital in a post-Brexit environment, with headline speakers including:
- Philipp Humm, tech investor, director, artist and ex-CEO of Vodafone Europe.
- His Excellency, Erlan Idrissov London Ambassador of Kazakhstan.
- Adam Hardie from Johnston Carmichael, Scotland’s largest firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, advising over 430 food and drink businesses.
- Brian Colquhoun, Head of Commercial Banking Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank Group.
Other dignitaries attending include: CD Foreign Ambassadors representing key export opportunities; important British Forces Charities (including Royal British Legion and Royal Hospital Chelsea); prominent business owners; senior UK government representatives; and senior individuals from across the professional advisory and investment markets.
Founded in October 2014, the League was originally started as a response to the growth of crowdfunding platforms. These digital platforms become popular, but ultimately there was still a large group of investors who wanted face to face introductions and personal contact. The League has since grown into a thriving Investor Society focused on supporting the UK investor and business communities from SMEs to major growth capital funds. It is now committed to helping promote British businesses with a strong regional focus and to helping them navigate the uncertainty caused by Brexit.
